Bottle Openers
If there is one thing I have pondered for a long time, it is bottle openers. You may think that is nuts, and I suppose it is a little, but it’s a certain type of openers that I see that get me thinking. It’s not an everyday obsession, but it is something that comes up on occasion, and to my surprise, it is something that I have never been able to wrap my mind around. I have even asked friends what they think about it, and they have admitted they had never quite seen it the way I do. The objects of my dismay are the bottle openers that are also key chains. I wish someone would explain to me why this is a good idea. Drunk drivers take the lives of so many each year, and it causes a lot of pain for the families involved. Why on earth should bottle openers that are obviously meant to open bottles of beer be given out to someone on a key chain? Beer should be kept far, far away from any car or truck. I don’t care if you are just sitting near your car, there shouldn’t be a beer near you at that point. You may argue that you carry your keys with you, and that you never know when you may need bottle openers. Excuse me? Are we just finding beers on the streets now, and wishing we had a way to open them? Beer should be consumed in the home or in a bar for the most part, and when this goes on, there is no shortage of bottle openers. You can argue that you may take it camping with you, and that’s fine, but are you going to forget your bottle opener? I also know that bottle openers are good for opening other things, but in reality, these are made for beer. Keys for both home and car are often on the same chain. So there you have your bottle openers on something that is meant to start your car. It’s not the smartest message I have ever seen, and I don’t think people think when they make or hand these out. I may be nuts, but I don’t understand the reasoning behind it, and I will never carry one. Besides, just try to convince an officer of the law that you couldn’t have been drinking when you have a bottle opener hanging from your ignition.
